Name of Assignment: American Hero Subject: United States History Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Goring
Description of Work/Assignment: For this assignment I was supposed to learn about an American with a large impact on American history. For this project, I chose FDR because he helped America through WWII, the great depression, the dust bowl, and would've stayed in office forever if he hadn't died at the start of his fourth term.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I think the 21st Century Skill I used the most throughout this project was Communication Skills. I'd say I needed to use Communication Skills for this project because the teacher constantly checked up on our progress. We also had to present to him and the entire class, without reading from the slides.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I think the part of this project that I'm most proud of in this assignment was the person I chose. I put a lot of time into researching some of America's greatest public figures before deciding on Roosevelt.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? I really improved on my Communication Skills because presenting in front of my peers is something I still need lots of practice with.
What was most difficult about completing this task? I think the most difficult part about this task was presenting in front of my class. I also had some technical difficulties on the day of my presentation, for example I couldn't get my screen share to work. But, I think I was louder and spoke slower than usual during this type of presentation, which was good.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? If I could start over, I'd probably look for pictures that captures the audience's attention more than the ones I had used. I'd also have liked pictures that fit the text a bit better.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? Since Kihei Charter School is a project based school, presenting is not uncommon. I have never been good at or comfortable with presenting in front of large groups so I think doing it over zoom was good for gaining different experiences.
How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply this to future projects throughout my whole life, where I'll need to present no matter what I end up doing.
